The runway lights are very interesting to use with FCLP (Field Carrier Landing Pratice) because we can turn on and off all lights.
The example has only a mdl file and it is impossible to adapt it to another runway.
Please, can you say me the way to adapt it for some others runways.

I don’t know what you mean by adapt…use the mdl for another scenery?
Actually, the idea is to create your own mdl specific for you project. The demo just shows the xml code needed to create the functionality.

    Hi,
Thank you very much for your answer. My question is how to create my own mdl? What do you use to create the example and how you proceed?
If you can give me some informations, I can try to do a first specific model. I would having 73 FCLP that are about 40 runways. A big work.

If you are using FSX you can use Gmax , if P3D 3dsMax..there are tutorials to read in the Web , but it is a very steep learning curve..

I am using FSX and I know (a little) Gmax. I Can’t create an objet but I know to modify it.
In the example mdl, there are no effect.
With Gmax, is it necessary having an objet for each texture light?

The demo runway lighting is made as one single model. All the lights are small polygons with a mapped texture. It uses the “Mip-Map” technique to have the lights grow with increasing distance.

Of course it would be possible to create runway lighting with individual effects attached to each light, but I can tell you that this will heavily impact rendering performance!

That’s why today, airport developers tend to use the mip-map technique to have performance friendly *custom* runway lighting.

As Jorge mentioned, since these are all basic modelling techniques and not really SODE related, it is better to ask in a modelling forum, like fsdeveloper.com for guidance on how to create FSX models and all the techniques required to get runway lights with the mip-map technique.

    Best regards

    Hi 12b
Now we have a mdl with Gmax using own textures.
    Lights are for a runway (2000m x 45m)
When we are on the runway, all is as FSX do.
But how do you proceed to use the “Mip-Map” technique to have the lights grow with increasing distance.
    Regards
    Michel
