    Hello,
    i have an issue with SODE 1.5.3 (is the second time with the same issue):
    after some days after installing SODE, P3Dv4 CTD during startup. Removing or disabling all add-on and enabling one for time i found that problem is SODE: with all add-on enabled and SODE deactivated or unistalled P3Dv4 can startup and work fine. checked everythinks: un-istalled and re-installed SODE, P3D Client but nothing… P3D doesn’ work with SODE ! The first time that i had the problem i solved through re-installing completely P3Dv4 via fresh installation but after 20/30 days i’m here…

    PS: i dont have GSX…

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Solved:
    renamed “SimObjectAnimationModule64.dll” to “SimObjectAnimationModule.dll”;
    inside P3Dv4 folder edited “add-on.xml” file changing:

    <AddOn.Component>
    <Category>DLL</Category>
    <Path>..\SimObjectAnimationModule64.dll</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>

    to
    <AddOn.Component>
    <Category>DLL</Category>
    <Path>..\SimObjectAnimationModule.dll</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>

    result:
    no more crash at startup !!!
    maybe a bug ???

    thanks anyway,
    Paul

    Hello Paul,

    Well, while your fix will load SODE it doesn’t cure the real problem. What you are doing here is trying to load a 32-bit dll into a 64-bit Prepar3D, which will be of course rejected. The dll will not be loaded and the sim starts up without it. SODE jetways will not work, because they need that dll for animation.

    I see you have the orbx object flow 2 beta installed. Did that one cause a CTD once in the past? I only read in their forums that it was not very stable in the beginning and caused many crashes. The problem here is that when the sim crashes, it sometimes cannot properly clean-up/shut-down other loaded dlls, for example SODE’s dll. Windows has this speciality that it may flag incorrectly shutdown dlls as incompatible. The dll itself does not even has to be the root cause. The details on why Windows flags dll this way is not really documented, which makes troubleshooting difficult.

    This flag in turn can lead to CTD with the sim during start-up due to this incompatibility setting and I guess this is what is the cause. The funny thing is that during start-up of the sim, SODE’s dll does not do anything productive.

    I need you to do the following things, please:

    1. Open regedit
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
    3. Make a screenshot of regedit showing the entries
    4. Upload here in the forum

    I’m pretty sure there is an entry for Prepar3D.exe V4 in relation with IgnoreFreeLibrary<SimObjectAnimationModule64.dll>…
    When you edit the key and remove that part of the string or even entirely delete the key, then P3Dv4 will start up fine the next time you launch it.

    Hi jeffrey,
    maybe i didnt write clearly, sorry for my bad english,

    I’m not trying to load the 32-bit dll, but i load the 64bit dll with a different name !

    First i renamed “SimObjectAnimationModule.dll” (32bit) to “SimObjectAnimationModule.off”;

    Than i renamed “SimObjectAnimationModule64.dll” to “SimObjectAnimationModule.dll” so to use SimObjectAnimationModule64.dll renamed but is still 64bit (this can not change by renaming a dll…)

    is clear also that the add-on.xml file in the P3Dv4 folder was edit to follow the right path of the renamed dll…

    and all work fine, P3D and SODE.

    I understand that this procedure does not fix the real problem but is the only way for P3D to load the right dll.

    Orbx object flow 2 beta is installed but, as written in the first post, I used SODE alone even without any add-on but P3D crashed anyway.

    Anyway, I attach the registry screenshot and apparently is as you said, the dll is flagged incorrectly. I will modify it and try, even if I do not understand how this can happen…

    I’ll let you know if your suggestion will solve the problem, if so, I think your suggestion should be in the FAQ section of the support forum.

    Thanks, soon

    Paul
